What does this hub cover?
This hub covers 12 intercity routes from Marrakech, plus the coastal link between Agadir and Essaouira. Each page compares the train, the CTM and Supratours coaches, the grand taxi and the private minibus, with distance, driving time and price per mode.
Public transport in Morocco rests on the ONCF train, the CTM and Supratours coaches and the grand taxis. The table below compares those networks with a private vehicle on every link.
The route index
Each row states the distance, the driving time and the private transfer’s starting fare. The private minibus is the only door-to-door mode across all twelve routes, from the guest’s riad to the exact arrival address, with no change of vehicle.
- Marrakech to Essaouira: distance, driving time and private transfer176 km2 h 45€105No rail line serves Essaouira: Supratours runs the connecting coach from Marrakech’s own train station.
- Marrakech to Agadir: distance, driving time and private transfer250 km2 h 50€150The A7 motorway crosses the Argana gorge at 380 metres, the only high point on this route to the Souss.

How do Morocco’s intercity transport options compare?
Five modes cover intercity travel in Morocco: the ONCF train, the CTM coach, the Supratours coach, the grand taxi and the private minibus. Each bills a different price per kilometre, and only the private minibus stays door-to-door to the exact arrival address.
| Mode | Network | Price per km | Luggage | Door-to-door |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ONCF train | Southern terminus in Marrakech; also serves Casablanca, Rabat, Fès and Tangier via Al Boraq | 0.40 MAD/km in 2nd class | 2 suitcases per passenger | No |
| CTM coach | National network, station on rue Abou Bakr Seddik in Guéliz | 0.35 to 0.40 MAD/km | 20 kg in the hold, 5 MAD/kg beyond | No |
| Supratours coach | ONCF’s road subsidiary, serves the cities with no station: Essaouira, Agadir, Ouarzazate, Zagora, Merzouga, Chefchaouen | 0.35 to 0.40 MAD/km | 25 kg in the hold | No |
| Grand taxi | Six-seat Mercedes 240, Bab Doukkala bus station | 0.30 MAD/km per seat | 1 small bag per seat | No |
| Private minibus | Kech Travel Bus fleet of 22 vehicles, all of Morocco | 6 to 7.5 MAD/km per vehicle | Unlimited hold luggage | Yes |
Prices recorded in March 2026. The private minibus fare is billed per vehicle, not per seat. From six to nine travellers, the whole group pays less than the coach or the train.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a petit taxi and a grand taxi?
A petit taxi is a metered city taxi, limited to the Marrakech perimeter and to three passengers. A grand taxi is a shared six-seat Mercedes 240 that runs intercity routes, leaving from the Bab Doukkala bus station.
Should you take CTM or Supratours for an intercity trip?
CTM covers the whole national network from its Guéliz station, while Supratours, ONCF’s road subsidiary, serves the cities with no train station. Hold luggage is capped at 20 kg with CTM against 25 kg with Supratours.
How do you get around Marrakech without your own vehicle?
A petit taxi covers trips inside the city, from the medina to Guéliz, Hivernage or the Palmeraie. The private minibus takes over for any trip out of Marrakech, with pickup at the exact address.
What is the cheapest way to travel around Morocco?
The grand taxi is the cheapest option, at 0.30 MAD per kilometre and per seat. The CTM or Supratours coach follows at 0.35 to 0.40 MAD per kilometre, against 6 to 7.5 MAD per kilometre for the private minibus, billed per vehicle.
Does a private minibus work out cheaper than a coach for a group?
Yes, from around six to nine passengers depending on the route. The private minibus fare stays fixed per vehicle, while the coach and the grand taxi both bill per seat. Past that point, the whole group travels for less than public transport.
Does an intercity route replace a day trip or a tour?
No, a route links two cities with no detour. A day trip returns to Marrakech the same evening after visiting one site, and a tour adds several nights elsewhere. The three page types complement each other depending on how long the stay is.
